Operation Mind Control
The federal government supports most scientific research in the United States.
Enough psychologists and other social scientists haven't asked questions about what their research is to be used for.
Their main objective has been to get the grant, so they could support themselves and their scientific curiosity.
Since too many of them have been politically disinterested or naive, they have been easy prey for the cryptocracy.

According to a recent statistics, one gallon oil costs the invading troops $400 and annual expenditure of one soldier is almost one million US dollar.
The aim of the Mujahideen is to have a free and independent country and Islamic government which represents the aspirations of the Afghan people.
These are natural rights of people which has nothing to do with terrorism.
But the so-called advocates of democracy and human rights are not ready to give these natural rights to the Afghans and to the Mujahideen.
However, the word of terrorism is still not exactly defined.
Who are the terrorists?
Those who defend their country, faith, values and natural rights or those who throw deci-cutter bombs and fire Hellfire missile at wedding, funeral ceremonies and rallies.
Thousands of innocent Afghans have been killed in Nangarhar, Urozgan, Hirat, Fara, Kunduz and Paktya provinces as a result of American and NATO blind bombardment.
Had they any role whatsoever in the 9/ 11 event?
No.
Of course, no.
Afghan Resistance of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan
Of course not, but you cannot tell the dumbed-down mind-controlled worker-bee slaves who daily get their brainwashing from Western television BBC et al, from all forms of Americanized movies, radio and controlled newspapers; continually fed ideas that 24 hours each day entertain the brain-formations within these slaves.
Of course not!

When Blood is Their Argument: An Empire on Fire
And so the cycle goes on and on — now with a Peace Laureate at its head.
Looking at this ever-growing darkness, I keep coming back to something
I wrote the day after 9/11:
Blood will have blood; that's certain.
But blood will not end it.
For murder is fertile: it breeds more death, like a spider laden with a thousand eggs.
And who now can break this cycle, which has been going on for generations?
And while our leaders may be moral nullities, they are not idiots.
Therefore it is clear beyond all doubt and argument that the stated purposes for the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan are deliberate, knowing, well-considered lies.
Thus all the earnest debates and commentaries on the relative efficacy of various policies aimed at achieving these completely specious goals are pointless.
In the end, such diversionary 'debates' only serve the causes of war, domination, profiteering and elite power that are, in the end, the only true goals of these campaigns.

The cryptocracy is designed to function like a machine.
It also has the feelings of a machine — none at all.   But, unlike a machine, it does have ambition.
To it, human beings are so much cheap hardware who perform certain set functions which produce certain predetermined results.
They are valued relative to cost and efficiency.
The cryptocracy is the perfect cybernetic organism — pure logic at the planning level — nothing but automatic response in the field.
If a prospective agent cannot be recruited by an appeal to patriotism, he is bribed.   If he cannot be bribed, he is blackmailed.
If he refuses to be blackmailed, he is 'programmed.'
If all these fail, he is killed, for it must not be known that he had ever been approached — so important is 'national security.'

Comment from the editor of ThePeoplesVoice.org
October 21, 2009
Under conditions of growing unemployment and deepening social misery for working people throughout the US, President Barack Obama flew into New York City Tuesday to raise millions of dollars in campaign donations from America’s financial elite.
Obama stole this money from the people, gave it to the elite, and now gets his handouts from them to finance his campaign of lies targeted against the people.
Some president!
Some asshole!
Being Prepared
by Scott McPherson
An extra bag of beans and an extra bag of rice
Several months ago a good friend of mine told me that every time she goes to the supermarket she picks up an extra bag of beans and an extra bag of rice.
Her husband, a Second Amendment enthusiast (to put it mildly), has the ammunition stash covered.
She's making sure the family has plenty of food if things should get really bad.
Following her advice, I've started doing the same thing.
Obama Forever!
But there's another type of preparedness we should all consider.
My wife and I like music, especially live music.   Last month we went to our favorite music venue in the world.
Our neighbor has a band, which was opening up for another band that he highly recommended, so, funds and a babysitter being available, we had a night out.
Both bands were great.   We danced and drank good beer.   The low-point, however, came at the end of the evening.
The headliner band, after playing one long set, dedicated their encore to 'President Obama.'
The crowd, mostly young people from nearby University of New Hampshire, cheered enthusiastically.
But it gets worse: the bass player stepped up to the microphone and, pumping his fist in the air, shouted "Obama Forever!"
I'm not kidding.
The crowd went nuts.
I don't remember what song they played; I'd stopped listening at that point.
I did shout "Long Live the King" at the top of my voice, but I doubt anyone heard, or understood what I was talking about, or cared, if they did.
I want to see what evil looks like
I walked to the back of the room and stood by the main exit.
As soon as the encore was done the lights would come up, and everyone would start filing out.
I made it a point that night to look in the face of every single person that went past.
After a few minutes my wife spotted me and came over. "What are you doing?" she asked.   "I want to see what evil looks like," I responded.
This isn't partisan; I feel the same way when I see McCain's Republican Robots chanting wildly and waving their fascistic 'Country First' signs at their would-be Emperor.
I got sick of listening to old people whose children were grown and out of school complain about property taxes
On Tuesday and Thursday evenings I take a small class; I'm learning to play bass guitar, and gather with several others to play in an Ensemble coached by a local musician.
Just a few days ago, when we were taking a break, me and one of the other students walked to the Panera next door for a coffee.
I've talked to this guy before, and know he's a Democrat; his frequent pontifications on the virtues of high taxes, government regulation, and universal healthcare was my first clue.
He also knows I'm a libertarian.
We haven't talked much, but I'm sure to inject a reasoned rebuttal everytime he fouls off at the mouth.
As we stood in line, he said, "There's something about New Hampshire. I feel different when I'm here."   (He's from Maine.)
I didn't really care what he meant; I was certain I wouldn't agree with it.   So I said, "Maybe it's freedom.   You live in one of the highest-taxed states in the union."
He then proceeded to lecture me, sneering all the while, about New Hampshire's high property taxes.
"Sure," I said.   "It's too high — especially when so much of it pays for services I don't use!    How's about I get back that third or so that funds the public schools?"
In a classic deflection, he said, "When I lived in Florida I got so sick of listening to old people, whose children were grown and out of school, complain about the property taxes."
I didn't hestitate.   I said, "The difference is, I've never had a child in any public school.   So can I have that money back now?"
More deflection: "So who's going to pave that street in front of your house," he sneered, "the Road Fairy?"
I wanted to stay on topic, so rather than get into a debate on private roads, I kept him focused.
"If I use a service, I ought to pay for it," I said.   "But what about those public schools?"
There's only a desire to impose their will on the rest of us
At this point he'd had enough.   Turning his back to me, he said, contemptuously, dismissively: "We're all in this together."
No dictator ever said it better.
Later that evening, in class, I took a good, long look at that man.
I wanted to see what evil looks like.
Be they Fascist Republicans or Marxist Democrats, one common thread runs through their thinking: there is no right or wrong.   There's only a desire to impose their will on the rest of us.
By all means, stock up on beans, rice, ammunition, fuel, and gold.
If the Empire is crumbling — and I believe it is — you'll need all of those things.
Take him at his word
More important, though, is that we be mentally prepared for what is coming.
When your friend, neighbor, colleague, or any passing aquaintance declares himself for evil, take him at his word.

WIBDI: What If Bush Did It?
This user-friendly analytical tool provides a quick and easy way of determining the value of any given policy while correcting one's perception for partisan bias.
Simply take a particular action or proposal and submit it to the WIBDI test: If Bush did this, would you think it was OK?
Or would you condemn it as the act of a warmonger, or a tyrant, or a corrupt corporate tool, etc.?
The just-concluded campaign has already shown us how our hordes of our quondam dissidents have signally failed this test, excusing, countenancing, defending or even embracing the actions and positions enumerated below by Chris Hedges:
"Sen. Barack Obama’s vote to renew the Patriot Act, his votes to continue to fund the Iraq war, his backing of the FISA Reform Act, his craven courting of the Israeli lobby, his support of the death penalty, his refusal to champion universal, single-payer not-for-profit health care for all Americans, his call to increase troop levels and expand the war in Afghanistan, his failure to call for a reduction in the bloated and wasteful defense spending and his lobbying for the huge taxpayer swindle known as the bailout..."
To which we could add his bellicose saber-rattling at Iran.
His promise to roll back 'Russian aggression' and extend war-triggering treaty protection to an aggressive Georgian regime (which cluster-bombed its own people, as we learned this week).
His advocacy of destabilizing and civilian-shredding military strikes in Pakistan.
His opposition to gay marriage (and campaigning with gay-bashing preachers)
And his support for extending the death penalty to cover non-fatal offenses, and so on.

Perverse Priorities in a World of Lies
In many essays, I've talked about the immense difficulty of trying to discuss any issue of genuine importance in today's cultural atmosphere.
Among the primary reasons for the near impossibility of talking about any subject that actually matters is the fact that the overwhelming majority of people are entirely comfortable existing on a steady diet of lies — lies about the genuine nature of the U.S. government's actions, lies about "the good guy" American, lies about the ruling class, lies about racism as a core element in America's history... the lies are endless, and most people swallow all of them.
Almost no one in national political life, and almost no writer of prominence, will acknowledge the full meaning of the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq: because Iraq never constituted a serious threat to the U.S., and because that fact was readily apparent in the winter and spring of 2002-2003 (even to an honest citizen with no "expert" specialized knowledge), the U.S. invasion was a criminal act of aggression, identical in principle to Nazi Germany's invasion of Poland.
This foundational fact has many further implications, and one of them is critical in evaluating the two major presidential candidates: since the invasion was a criminal act of aggression, the U.S. occupation of Iraq is similarly an ongoing series of monstrous war crimes.
To vote to fund the continuing occupation is to be an accomplice to genocide and to the destruction of an entire nation and its peoples, and thus to be a war criminal.
Most Americans who vote this November, and probably many of you reading this, will vote for one of these war criminals.
I no longer care what rationalizations people use to justify such a detestable choice — that one war criminal is not quite as bad as the other for some unspecified reason, that one of these bastards speechifies more prettily than the other and touches some inchoate, indefinable emotional chord in your stunted soul, that (as a friend recently observed to me privately, in condemning this version of the excuse) we've had white assholes governing this country for so long that it's only 'fair' to have a black asshole in charge for a change.
I don't give a damn what reason you give yourself for your embrace of evil, for only one fact matters:
If you vote for McCain or Obama, you're voting for a war criminal.

Never mind that almost every word they speak is a lie
Never mind the lives they so heedlessly and criminally throw away, as they eagerly pay for a military that will rip apart the bodies of more than a million innocent people
But you can comfort yourselves with the pretty words and the empty phrases, as the flames engulf us and we drown in blood

As for Obama and Biden they are swimming in blood, and none of their supporters seem to mind that to any noticeable extent.

Why Barack Obama Needs a Whuppin'
BAR executive editor Glen Ford
Barack Obama's candidacy for president reveals critical fissures in the historical African American worldview, forcing Black citizens and activists to make a choice:
Will we support a cosmetic change in regime that is no more than skin deep — endorsing the ruling structure because it has a Black face — or continue on the long journey to self-determination, true social democracy and peace.
Obama, the political twin of Hillary Clinton and the corporate Democratic Leadership Council her husband helped found, is determined to liquidate Black politics as an independent force in the United States, having already proclaimed, "There is no Black America."
"Obama personifies the definitive end of Black organized struggle in the United States."
Barack Obama is the antithesis of Black Power, a man who promises with every word he speaks, with every nuance of phrase and body language, and through his voting record as a U.S. Senator, that he personifies the definitive end of Black organized struggle in the United States — a unilateral surrender to white racism.
This is his appeal to the white masses: that they will no longer be challenged to confront history, or to relinquish privilege in the present.
Obama's siren song to African Americans is of an entirely different nature.
He does not have to sing it; we provide the music, ourselves.
The lyrics and melody are actually alien to Obama, but he has heard them off and on in his strange sojourn through life, and senses their power to sway us.
He understands that most of us will demand nothing from him — not even elemental allegiance.
His "Black" flank, he knows, is covered, while his white "progressive" flank is neutralized and confused by Black failure to recoil at his betrayals of the most basic elements of social democracy.
The field is wide open to the greatest opportunist to emerge from melanin-rich ranks in the New Millennium.
Obama has already cashed in on his "Race, but not really, Card" — to the tune of $25 million dollars in contributions in the first three months of this year, three-quarters of it from corporations.
This does not happen by accident.
Since setting foot in the U.S. Senate, Obama has directed his entire message machine to the task of convincing corporate America that he is a friend who can be counted on to leave the actual Power Game in their hands.
One of his first votes was to transfer most class action suits to federal courts, where multi-billion-dollar companies found guilty of race, gender or general employee abuse are fined the equivalent of the millionaire CEO's latest weekend at the casinos in Monaco.
In the process of taking class action suits out of state courts, where the penalties to offending corporations have historically been much harsher, Obama voted against an amendment to put a cap of 30 percent on credit card debt charges.
A fraction of that multi-billion dollar gift to the most unproductive sector of the economy wound up in his campaign coffers.
"Obama understands that most of us will demand nothing from him — not even elemental allegiance."
The alienated man from Kansas, Hawaii, Indonesia and Harvard has not skipped a beat in his pursuit of Power Approval.
He stood down while only California Senator Barbara Boxer stood up to challenge the theft of Black voting rights in the 2004 election.
He coddled American Manifest Destiny queen Condoleezza Rice and Bush Supreme Court nominees, while doing nothing — absolutely nothing — to materially aid Katrina victims.
He has stuck like Crazy Glue to positions on the Iraq war and health care that are practically indistinguishable from Hillary Clinton's — and in no way threaten the military-industrial complex or health care-insurance industries.
Obama vows to add 100,000 more troops to the U.S. aggression and occupation for oil force, to be deployed...wherever his masters want them to go.
Obama is a company man.
He knows the language, the subtle and overt signals, and emits them like a beacon.
Ruling circles have gotten the message, and that is why corporate media have made him a contender, and corporate billfolds have financed him.
The "skinny kid" made his bones at the Democratic National Convention, in August, 2004, while he was still an Illinois senatorial candidate — a shoo-in against the hopeless and deranged Black Republican Alan Keyes.
Obama put all white fears to rest:
"There is no white America.
"There is no black America.
"There is no Latino America.
"There is no Asian America.
"There is only the United States of America."
Hallelujah!
Therefore, there is no specific oppression of Black people in America (carried out by whites), and there is no Black polity worth paying attention to.
Voila, the problem of centuries is solved!
"Obama vows to add 100,000 more troops to the U.S. aggression and occupation for oil force."
The litany of Obama's subsequent transgressions against the entirety of Black struggle is too long to recount in this article, and can only be understood as methodical elements of a studied plan to eliminate race as a subject of debate in American political life.
Obama is the NOT-Black candidate, who just looks Black, and will absolve white folks — like a priest behind a screen — of historical, present, and future sins.
He will integrate the mythical American narrative, washing it clean of real facts by his very presence and gleaming smile.
He is happy.   White folks are happy.   Blacks are happy.   Oh, happy days!
The Internal Enemy
In his journey to personal identity — dishonestly but expertly packaged for white and corporate audiences in his two books — Obama learned a salient and elemental fact of Black life: we want recognition by the nation as a whole, and some connection to the national narrative.
African Americans have claimed at least five U.S. presidents — Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, Warren Harding, and Calvin Coolidge — as "soul brothers" in blood, alleging they have Black ancestors.
It does not matter that none of them, including Lincoln, thought of Black people as equals or even, in some cases, human.
Such is the hunger.
"Obama has become a great presence that threatens the very fabric of Black politics."
We at Black Agenda Report are not immune to the illness.
While our team was operating out of Black Commentator, in 2003, Bruce Dixon and I discovered that Obama was listed as a member of the Democratic Leadership Council (DLC), the corporate-funded rightwing of the party, created by white southern Democrats (Bill Clinton, Al Gore) for the purpose of blunting Black and labor influence in the party's affairs.
Obama was at the time a national nobody, not ranked as a front-runner in the Illinois senatorial primary.
We called him on his alleged affiliation with the DLC, which was posted for all to see.
He claimed to know nothing about it — a transparent lie.
But we gave the "brother" a pass, and engaged him in a dialogue.
There followed a month-long series of interchanges — June 5, June 12, June 19, June 26, 2003 — in which Obama danced like Mr. Bojangles to get around the issues at hand.
Was he a DLC Democrat, by affiliation or political affinity?
Finally, tiring of the charade and the reflexive spin from Obama's mouth, Dixon and I compiled three questions to the wannabe senator, the answers to which would determine if he should be in the DLC and, therefore, unworthy of our support.
Obama, a genius at double-speak, fudged all three, on the Iraq war, universal health care, and NAFTA/so-called free trade.
We gave him a pass, and said he was clean, although both of us knew by then he was an inveterate liar and evader.
He had actually flunked the "bright line" test.
Neither of us wanted to be the ones to put a damper on an up-and-coming Black star.
We understood that our people didn't want crabs in the barrel, pulling brothers down, or the appearance of it.
We apologize, to our people and to history.
Since that time as a nobody, Obama has become a great presence that threatens the very fabric of Black politics, having declared there is no such thing.
At a recent gathering of Black trade unionists who support the most left-wing social democratic agenda that is allowed in American political discourse, Obama was treated as a savior — despite the fact that his applause-filled speech endorsed almost none of the specific planks of Black trade unionists.
He had fudged again, and gotten away with it.
No white man could pull it off, but Obama did, and entertained fans for an hour afterwards, taking pictures with folks who wanted to show their grandchildren that they had been in the presence of the next Black president.
He is a knife in our heart.

Even if Obama were the greatest speaker to come along in 30 years, it still would not explain:
Why being simply a skilled speaker would cause people to say he is the greatest ‘leader’ of a generation.
Why he should be trusted to make decisions opposite to all decisions he has previously made in his life.
Why he should be trusted to bring change when he hasn’t shown change — by his voting record — of anything since he became a US Senator, or indeed changed much of anything in his 46 years.
What he has done in his life does not logically fit present perception.
In fact, the gulf between the reality of Obama and the perception of Obama is extraordinary.
Comment from Kewe:
When is the Kewe confused?
Well!   Right now with the Obama issue
I had planned a lengthy remake based upon a .pdf file presently on rense.com — Hypnotic techniques Obama is using in his appearances.
But I am not sure the information given is substantive enough to state Obama is deliberately using hypnosis in his speeches.
I do not have a television — I have long realized television is more insidious than film and radio in hypnotically transferring propaganda — and I have not seen Obama give a speech.
Many articles and passing comments by people do give their surprise, querying and wonder at the reaction of people to Obama.
And then nothing Obama has done is consistent with him being a 'liberal,' which I am, liberal in the fullest sense — meaning to allow freedom to all to live their lives as they wish, so long as they don't do another physical harm.
My summation is that everything Obama has done politically is no variant from McCain or Bush or the other politicos presently controlling the US.
For me there is no choice between the two major candidates in the US election.
Both Obama and McCain are war criminals.
McCain's war crimes extend back to the Vietnam war.
Obama and McCain both vote to allow the US military to kill other people — the US military having no moral right to be in foreign lands, certainly no right to kill people.
This voting to allow funding for the US military to kill is I consider as much war criminality as Stalin, Mao and the other dictators and politicians who have engaged and some tried in — how would it best be described — enterprises such as the 'court' at Hague.
However, hypnosis is a serious matter.
I am someone who practices off-planet contact — within this context it is necessary to accept that both the brain — and inner mind that we retain as we extend from the human brain — holds pre and sub conscious depths that do affect reasoning and can be interferred with by hypnosis by space beings and humans.
Hypnosis is why I do not watch television.
Television by using electronic means, contra messages and various other techniques, acts as a pre-conditioning tool to place the mind into a hypnotic receptive state.
Scripts using hypnotic techniques via television, do manipulate people without their full awareness.
The critical factor of our analytical mind is the primary cognitive defense that stops information from seeping into the subconscious by rationally analyzing information.
The critical factor of our analytical mind keeps our subconscious fluidity from literally believing that we are a chicken when someone calls us a 'chicken.'
Keeps us from literally believing we are a square box when somebody calls us a 'square.'
Keeps us from literally believing we are a flake off of somebody's skin when somebody calls us a 'flake.'
We don’t consciously ponder the notion we are an actual chicken when someone calls us a chicken, our critical factor stops that commanding information seeping below the level of awareness — which if it did not would begin to make us act as if we were an actual chicken rather than a human.
Note how theater hypnotists cause people to perform hilarious acts.
Some of the above and that below is taken and abridged from the Rense.com document.
A very small percentage of the population study subconscious manipulation.
This small but very serious group of people study how to manipulate and alter the belief structures that we as individuals build by our rational judgment, reason, and experience.
Subconscious manipulation is how to sideline in others, rational judgment, reason, experience and natural feelings, in essence how to change people’s feelings and will.
Techniques get us to absorb and believe facts that aren't facts, not by convincing us rationally, but by speaking to our subconscious mind.
An example is to emotively draw us to our family connection, our love for our children, heroes such as John F. Kennedy.
Speaking in certain rhythmic and unnaturally slow tempos will transfer deeply felt emotions into the subconscious — this can be accompanied by feelings of trust and even subservience to the person to whom we are listening.
In this use of our emotion 'buttons', the transference of the speaker's opinions also enters — the fluidity of our subconscious mind becoming modified with these opinions.
Without our knowing, feelings have become linked to the speaker's message and to the sense and validity of the speaker.
We are in a period where hope seems a million miles away.
We crave to be given answers, to be given assurance.
We crave to be given a way out of the miasma — the noxious atmosphere of poison and evil engulfing the planet.
Our subconscious is open to those who speak of change — change — change — the times of change — change — change — we will bring change!
To: 'Yes!   We Can!'
Hand gestures and hidden content in language heighten transfer to the subconscious.
We walk from such contact feeling warm, safe — except it is artificial.
Except there is no substance, nothing but words speaking of change, nothing of how these words are consistent with previous acts.
The opposite perhaps: A reality that is to force us into a mass horrendous group state so that we — especially the youth and those minds still developing — proceed like robots chanting endless given messages.
A reality that getting angry even to the point of violence we hit out at anyone who might express disagreement.
A reality that we walk straight into an order — an order of behavior, an order of action, controlled and manipulated by a few, manipulated by both a seen and unseen elite where we, under mass hypnosis, proceed to fulfill their commands.
Hitler studied and became a master of hypnosis.
The German people became induced into madness via hypnosis techniques used by Hitler.
The US is already fast becoming a total fascist madness state.
As such McCain is an ideal candidate to lead the world into nuclear war.
As such Obama is an ideal candidate to lead the world into an elite controlled one-world orthodoxy.
Both nuclear war and one-word orthodoxy are goals of a hidden small cartel of manipulators who wish terror and death for metaphysical, off-planet, demonic rewards.
Periodic elimination of chunks of the world's population is a great game to these unseen elite manipulators:
Mao's elimination of millions in China, done by a populace under extreme hypnosis.
Stalin's elimination of millions in Russia, done by a populace under extreme hypnosis.
The German mass elimination of millions.
The Cambodian mass elimination of millions.
The Rwanda mass elimination of millions.
The Vietnam mass elimination of millions by the US.
All done by populations under extreme hypnosis.
Is it to be that whomever gets into power in the US, for large segments of the populations of the West, the intended consequence is death?
Study Obama's voting record since he became Senator — the link below to TheWE.cc Obama page will be a help to Obama's earlier voting record.
Nothing this past two years has seen any change.
Use Google search to scan media reports of people's reactions to Obama, and you decide if Obama is using mass hypnosis techniques.
This will be an enlightening opening towards understanding how our human brain and inner mind works and can be and is manipulated by a few.

McCain, Obama, and genocide
More than a half-million Iraqis have died because of the U.S. invasion in March, 2003; another million or so died in the decade before that thanks the U.S./U.K. ("U.N.") sanctions.
And in the light of all that, we can still, in this Alice-through the-looking-glass-world we live in, hear this from John McCain: "Failure is genocide."
And when asked by Wolf Blitzer to respond to that statement, here's the stone-racist response from Barack Obama:
BLITZER: What if he's right?
What if he's right, and what you're proposing and a lot of Democrats are proposing results in genocide in Iraq?
OBAMA: Well, look, what you have right now is chaos in Iraq.
After having spent hundreds of billions of dollars, after seeing close to 3,200 lives lost, what you now see is chaos.
That's what Barack Obama thinks has been lost in Iraq — hundreds of billions of dollars, and 3,200 lives.
The actual genocide that's taken place in the last 15 years?
Sorry, neither he nor McCain nor Wolf Blitzer even acknowledges that that has taken place.
The idea simply does not compute in their "the U.S. is a force for good in the world" brains.

Every time I look up he's doing something disgusting

Here is Obama, endlessly hailed as the brightest rising star in the Democratic firmament, delivering (at a closely watched political dinner, with Lieberman's primary opponent, Ned Lamont, sitting in the crowd) a ringing endorsement to his "mentor", Lieberman, Bush's closest Democratic ally on the war in Iraq, and overall pretty much a symbol of everything that's been wrong with the Democratic Party for the past twenty years.
What a slimy fellow Obama is, as befits a man symbolizing everything that will continue to be wrong with the Democratic Party for the next twenty years.
Every time I look up he's doing something disgusting, like distancing himself from his fellow senator Dick Durbin for denouncing the torture center at Guantanamo, or cheerleading the nuke-Iran crowd.

If Only They'd Hissed Barack Obama
— Obama's Game
Obama's man took grave exception to my use of the word "distanced" to describe what his boss had done when Illinois' senior U.S. senator, Dick Durbin, got into trouble for likening conditions at Guantanamo to those in a Nazi or Stalin-era camp.
This was one of Durbin's finer moments, as he read an FBI man's eyewitness describing how he had entered interview rooms:
...to find a detainee chained hand and foot in a fetal position to the floor, with no chair, food or water.
Most times they urinated or defecated on themselves, and had been left there for 18-24 hours or more."
"If I read this to you", Durbin told his fellow senators, "and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime — Pol Pot or others — that had no concern for human beings.
Sadly, that is not the case.
This was the action of Americans in the treatment of their prisoners.
It is not too late. I hope we will learn from history. I hope we will change course.
So Durbin paid the penalty of having to eat crow on the Senate floor.
His fellow senator, Obama, did not support him in any way.
Obama said:
...we have a tendency to demonize and jump on and make mockery of each other across the aisle and that is particularly pronounced when we make mistakes.
Each and every one of us is going to make a mistake once in a while.
...and what we hope is that our track record of service, the scope of how we've operated and interacted with people, will override whatever particular mistake we make.
That's three uses of the word "mistake".
This isn't distancing?
“Generally in wars, total casualties, which include wounded, crippled, and lost, are many times the number killed, often as high as ten times.
So while Americans, thirty years later, still weep at the Vietnam Memorial in Washington — a monument representing about sixty thousand deaths over ten years of war — they have inflicted on Iraq, in just three weeks, that same proportionate loss — all of them civilians.
With Iraq‘s population being less than ten percent that of the United States, such losses must be multiplied by ten to get some feel for their impact on the society.
Is this how a great power behaves in the early part of the 21st century? Especially a power that enjoys reminding us at every opportunity — I suppose because it is so easy for the rest of the world, just watching its actions, to forget — that America stands for human rights and democratic principles?”

The Mania and the Mirage

After two years of distancing himself from progressives, Barack Obama is ‘exploring’ a run for the presidency.
The marketing of the Obama ‘mirage’ reflects deep contradictions in both the Black and white manifestations of the ‘mania’ surrounding the Senator.
Barack Obama: The Mania and the Mirage
“The Black aspect of Obama-mania is as caught up in historical contradictions as is the white side of the phenomenon.”
“Mirage” is the best metaphor for Barack Obama.    He shimmers on the horizon, a promise of…something.    But as one draws closer, Obama dissipates into nothingness — which is his purpose.
Like a mirage, Obama floats as an illusion in the political intersections between hot and cool air.
It is the place he seeks: the deliberately chosen — yet ever-shifting — layer between other forces that are themselves constantly moving across the landscape.
As the Illinois Senator this weekend announced his intention to create a presidential “exploratory committee,” corporate pundits pegged him as nestled in the Democratic niche between Hillary Clinton, to his right — based her relatively “hot” air on Iraq — and the much cooler, if not frigid, temperatures at the base of the party.
That’s Obama’s intermediary comfort zone — a place of ever-interpretable impressions.
Barack Obama: The Mania and the Mirage

The truth is, Obama is determined to say next to nothing substantive at all, unless it is designed to position himself in some mellow region between opposing forces.

Photo: Black Agenda Report
"I've been struck by how hungry we all are for a different kind of politics,” said Obama in a video posted on his website.    “So I spent some time thinking about how I could best advance the cause of change and progress we so desperately need.”
Ahh, so that’s what the period between now and February 10, when he will make his presidential intentions official, is all about: thinking time.
Obama is known for choosing his words very carefully.
His admirers say that’s a sign of his conscientious nature, that he doesn’t want to inadvertently say the wrong thing, to speak irresponsibly.
The truth is, Obama is determined to say next to nothing substantive at all, unless it is designed to position himself in some mellow region between opposing forces.
“Obama is determined to say next to nothing substantive at all.”
Obama claims, "I didn't expect to find myself in this position a year ago.”
Amazing.    I suppose that’s why he has been so careful to navigate to the right of his fellow Democratic senator from Illinois, Dick Durbin; why he spent 2005 and 2006
mouthing “mush” on the Iraq war, and still continues to do so; why he told me point-blank, three weeks before being sworn in as U.S. senator, that he would not push for universal health care — the very issue that had made him a darling of progressives as a state senator, but which had burned Hillary Clinton when she was First Lady.
Obama runs from even the flicker of a flame.
"The decisions that have been made in the past six years have put our country in a precarious place," he said.
What the hell does that mean? Exactly what it is supposed to: next to nothing.
By February 10, Obama will have crafted a catch-phrase that captures some vague mood of distress among the electorate.    But he needs the time to measure the barometer, temperature and wind flow, and situate himself accordingly — the perfect mirage.
Barack Obama is a lawyer by training, but could easily have made a career on Madison Avenue, where “impressions” are the holy grail.
The most effective commercials are those that provoke the consumer to provide her own impressions of the product, through word and image association.
Obama’s special genius is to elicit self-generated positive impressions from a wide range of consumers/observers — most dramatically, from consumers across the color line — while saying nothing of substance.
“Obama could easily have made a career on Madison Avenue.”

Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton

Obama has eagerly signed on as a candidate of the center-right of the Democratic Party — a hair’s-breadth from Hillary Clinton, with whom I suspect he will eventually team-up.

Photo: Black Agenda Report
Corporate media, an extension of Madison Avenue, eats this crap up.
Barack Obama has “wide appeal” and is, therefore, a “saleable” product.
But what are they selling, and to whom?
They (and Obama) are certainly not selling an end to U.S. wars of aggression, or universal health care, or the right to housing, education, and a minimal standard of income.
Most insidiously, Obama-mania does not even market substantive measures toward racial justice.
Vote for me, and I’ll set you free
Quite the opposite: it presents an Obama presidential candidacy as a palliative — a soothing potion — that on its face serves as an historical benchmark showing how far “America” — meaning white America — has come.
Such is Obama’s carefully orchestrated message: Vote for me, and I’ll set you free — free like me! — from any obligation to reverse centuries of past wrongs or current crimes against African Americans; free to abandon universal health care as a national priority; free to warn Iraqis that there will be “
no more coddling” of them, as if 600,000 Iraqis have died from excess coddling; free to threaten “surgical missile strikes” against Iran in early 2006, and free to later back away from the warmongers’ bully pulpit when the political winds changed.
Free!
Commercialization is the great diversion in U.S. society: the creation of false realities that are “sold” far beyond conventional points-of-purchase.
For decades corporations (and their two political parties) have been marketing an empty package labeled “new, improved America,” a product that miraculously cures the nation’s ills without the trauma of relinquishing white privilege and forging a real social compact among Americans, or of abandoning an imperial foreign policy.
Barack Obama has cynically signed on as the beaming face on the package of that product.
In Obama’s mind, the game is all about “impressions” — ephemeral things that are very much like mirages.
Having no substance — poof! — in a minute, they are gone, leaving us to anxiously await the appearance of the next illusions of light and temperature, or messages that seem to solve ancient ills, but actually promise…nothing.
Barack Obama has methodically created the impression that he feels no special obligation to African Americans (“
There's not a black America and white America and Latino America and Asian America; there's the United States of America.”) — the source of his meteoric rise.
It matters not what he feels inside, or what he wrote in a decade-old biography.
Hillary whom I suspect he will eventually team-up

And what do African Americans get out of the deal?
Far less than nothing.
Obama — participant in the Great Diversion
By assisting white Americans to believe that painless absolution of collective responsibility for the past and current national sins can be achieved by looking kindly on an ingratiating Black man’s presidential candidacy, Obama has become an active participant in the Great Diversion.
He repeatedly reinforces the notion that noisy “partisan politics” is what’s wrong with America, rather than rapacious corporations, structural and overt racism, and rampaging militarism.
“He has eagerly signed on as a candidate of the center-right of the Democratic Party.”
Dennis Kucinich blackest candidate
As BAR Managing Editor Bruce Dixon has written, Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH), the announced presidential contender whose name is seldom uttered in the corporate media, is the “blackest candidate in the ring.” Kucinich’s voting record “matches the best of the Congressional Black Caucus across the board” and is far more in tune with the historical Black Consensus on issues of peace and social justice than Sen. Obama’s over the past two years.
However, African Americans will certainly flock to Obama’s candidacy, both emotionally and — if he doesn’t shift his weight to the Clintons before the primaries — with their votes.
Despite the passage of four decades since the Black Freedom Movement defeated official apartheid, a Jim Crow mentality continues to haunt Black politics, one that celebrates every prospect of a Black face in a high place.
The presidency is, of course, the ultimate brass ring.    African Americans yearn to vicariously grasp it — even if the candidate has labored mightily to distance himself from them.
It is true, as
Francis Kornegay wrote in the January 10 issue of BAR, that Black (and white) progressives must come to grips with “the unfolding Obama-mania.”
In many ways, the Black aspect of Obama-mania is as caught up in historical contradictions as is the white side of the phenomenon.    We will have to wrestle with both.
Look Who's Backing Bush's Next War
As Obama told the Chicago Tribune on September 26, 2004, "The big question is going to be, if Iran is resistant to these pressures [to stop its nuclear program], including economic sanctions, which I hope will be imposed if they do not cooperate, at what point ... if any, are we going to take military action?"
He added, "Launching some missile strikes into Iran is not the optimal position for us to be in" given the ongoing war in Iraq.
"On the other hand, having a radical Muslim theocracy in possession of nuclear weapons is worse."
Obama went on to argue that military strikes on Pakistan should not be ruled out if "violent Islamic extremists" were to "take over."

Nor did Obama's man like my description of Obama's cheerleading for the nuke Iran crowd.
Obama recently declared that when it comes to the U.S. posture on Iran, all options, including military ones, should be on the table.
Now, if Obama had any sort of guts in such matters he would have said that if Iraq is to teach America's leaders any lesson, it is that reckless recourse to the military "option" carries a dreadful long-term price tag.

If Only They'd Hissed Barack Obama
The horrible part of the story is that this is a moment when the antiwar movement should be at full effective stretch.
A couple of weeks ago Tony Swindell, a newspaper editor in north Texas wrote to me as follows:
"Begin paying attention to stories from Iraq like the very recent one about U.S. Marines killing a group of civilians near Baghdad.
This is the next step in the Iraq war as frustration among our soldiers grow — especially with multiple tours.
I served in Vietnam with the 11th Light Infantry Brigade, Americal Division, and My Lai was not an isolated incident.
We came to be known as the Butcher's Brigade, and we also were the birthplace of the Phoenix Program."
There's a numbness in my guts as I see the same nightmares becoming reality again in Iraq and I wonder what's happened to America's soul.
Is this what we want, another generation suckled on the poison of another renegade leadership?
Gooks have become ragheads.
Every adult male is an insurgent eligible for torture.
And every Iraqi home filled with men, women and children is a free-fire zone.
The atrocities against Iraqi civilians are slipping under the media radar screen.
But they're going to explode in America's face not too long from now."

If a man of this calibre could become president one day
I first met Democratic presidential hopeful Senator Barack Obama almost ten years ago when, as my representative in the Illinois state senate, he came to speak at the University of Chicago.
He impressed me as progressive, intelligent and charismatic.
I distinctly remember thinking 'if only a man of this calibre could become president one day.'
On Friday Obama gave a speech to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) in Chicago.
It had been much anticipated in American Jewish political circles which buzzed about his intensive efforts to woo wealthy pro-Israel campaign donors who up to now have generally leaned towards his main rival Senator Hillary Clinton.
Reviewing the speech, Ha'aretz Washington correspondent Shmuel Rosner concluded that Obama:
"Sounded as strong as Clinton, as supportive as Bush, as friendly as Giuliani.
At least rhetorically, Obama passed any test anyone might have wanted him to pass.
So, he is pro-Israel.
Period."
Israel is "our strongest ally in the region and its only established democracy," Obama said, assuring his audience that:
"We must preserve our total commitment to our unique defense relationship with Israel by fully funding military assistance and continuing work on the Arrow and related missile defense programs."
Such advanced multi-billion dollar systems he asserted, would help Israel:
"Deter missile attacks from as far as Tehran and as close as Gaza."
As if the starved, besieged and traumatized population of Gaza are about to develop intercontinental ballistic missiles.
Obama offered not a single word of criticism of Israel, of its relentless settlement and wall construction, of the closures that make life unlivable for millions of Palestinians.
There was no comfort for the hundreds of thousands of people in Gaza who live in the dark, or the patients who cannot get dialysis, because of what Israeli human rights group B'Tselem termed:
"...one cold, calculated decision, made by Israel's prime minister, defense minister, and IDF chief of staff last summer to bomb the only power plant in Gaza."
A decision that:
"...had nothing to do with the attempts to achieve [the] release [of a captured soldier] nor any other military need."
It was a gratuitous war crime, one of many condemned by human rights organizations, against an occupied civilian population who under the Fourth Geneva Convention Israel is obligated to protect.
While constantly emphasizing his concern about the threat Israelis face from Palestinians, Obama said nothing about the exponentially more lethal threat Israelis present to Palestinians.
In 2006, according to B'Tselem, Israeli occupation forces killed 660 Palestinians of whom 141 were children — triple the death toll for 2005.
In the same period, 23 Israelis were killed by Palestinians, half the number of 2005 (by contrast, 500 Israelis die each year in road accidents).
But Obama was not entirely insensitive to ordinary lives.
Obama's phrasing complete distortion
He recalled a January 2006 visit to the Israeli town of Kiryat Shmona that resembled an ordinary American suburb where he could imagine the sounds of Israeli children at "joyful play just like my own daughters."
He saw a home the Israelis told him was damaged by a Hizbullah rocket (no one had been hurt in the incident).
Six months later, Obama said, "Hizbullah launched four thousand rocket attacks just like the one that destroyed the home in Kiryat Shmona, and kidnapped Israeli service members."
Obama's phrasing suggests that Hizbullah launched thousands of rockets in an unprovoked attack, but it's a complete distortion.
After dozens of civilians were massacred in an Israeli air attack
Throughout his speech he showed a worrying propensity to present discredited propaganda as fact.
As anyone who checks the chronology of last summer's Lebanon war will easily discover, Hizbullah only launched rockets against Israeli towns after Israel had heavily bombed civilian neighborhoods in Lebanon killing hundreds of civilians, many fleeing the Israeli onslaught.
Obama excoriated Hizbullah for using "innocent people as shields."
Indeed, after dozens of civilians were massacred in an Israeli air attack on Qana on July 30, Israel "initially claimed that the military targeted the house because Hezbollah fighters had fired rockets from the area," according to an August 2 statement from Human Rights Watch.

The statement added:
"Human Rights Watch researchers who visited Qana on July 31, the day after the attack, did not find any destroyed military equipment in or near the home.
"Similarly, none of the dozens of international journalists, rescue workers and international observers who visited Qana on July 30 and 31 reported seeing any evidence of Hezbollah military presence in or around the home.
"Rescue workers recovered no bodies of apparent Hezbollah fighters from inside or near the building."
The Israelis subsequently changed their story, and neither in Qana, nor anywhere else did Israel ever present, or international investigators ever find evidence to support the claim Hizbullah had a policy of using civilians as human shields.
In total, forty-three Israeli civilians were killed by Hizbullah rockets during the thirty-four day war.
For every Israeli civilian who died, over twenty-five Lebanese civilians were killed by indiscriminate Israeli bombing — over one thousand in total, a third of them children.
Even the Bush administration recently criticized Israel's use of cluster bombs against Lebanese civilians.
But Obama defended Israel's assault on Lebanon
But Obama defended Israel's assault on Lebanon as an exercise of its "legitimate right to defend itself."
There was absolutely nothing in Obama's speech that deviated from the hardline consensus underpinning US policy in the region.
Echoing the sort of exaggeration and alarmism that got the United States into the Iraq war, he called Iran "one of the greatest threats to the United States, to Israel, and world peace."
While advocating "tough" diplomacy with Iran he confirmed that "we should take no option, including military action, off the table."
He opposed a Palestinian unity government between Hamas and Fatah and insisted "we must maintain the isolation of Hamas" until it meets the Quartet's one-sided conditions.
He said Hizbullah, which represents millions of Lebanon's disenfranchised and excluded, "threatened the fledgling movement for democracy" and blamed it for "engulf[ing] that entire nation in violence and conflict."
Over the years since I first saw Obama speak I met him about half a dozen times, often at Palestinian and Arab-American community events in Chicago including a May 1998 community fundraiser at which Edward Said was the keynote speaker.
In 2000, when Obama unsuccessfully ran for Congress I heard him speak at a campaign fundraiser hosted by a University of Chicago professor.
On that occasion and others Obama was forthright in his criticism of US policy and his call for an even-handed approach to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
The last time I spoke to Obama was in the winter of 2004 at a gathering in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood.
He was in the midst of a primary campaign to secure the Democratic nomination for the United States Senate seat he now occupies.
But at that time polls showed him trailing.
As he came in from the cold and took off his coat, I went up to greet him.
Tough primary race!!
He responded warmly, and volunteered:
"Hey, I'm sorry I haven't said more about Palestine right now, but we are in a tough primary race.
I'm hoping when things calm down I can be more up front."
He referred to my activism, including columns I was contributing to the The Chicago Tribune critical of Israeli and US policy, "Keep up the good work!"
Gradual shift into the AIPAC camp
But Obama's gradual shift into the AIPAC camp had begun as early as 2002 as he planned his move from small time Illinois politics to the national scene.
In 2003, Forward reported on how he had "been courting the pro-Israel constituency."
He co-sponsored an amendment to the Illinois Pension Code allowing the state of Illinois to lend money to the Israeli government.
Among his early backers was Penny Pritzker — now his national campaign finance chair — scion of the liberal but staunchly Zionist family that owns the Hyatt hotel chain.
(The Hyatt Regency hotel on Mount Scopus was built on land forcibly expropriated from Palestinian owners after Israel occupied East Jerusalem in 1967).
He has also appointed several prominent pro-Israel advisors.
Obama has also been close to some prominent Arab Americans, and has received their best advice.
His decisive trajectory reinforces a lesson that politically weak constituencies have learned many times: access to people with power alone does not translate into influence over policy.
But especially money
Money and votes, but especially money, channelled through sophisticated and coordinated networks that can "bundle" small donations into million dollar chunks are what buy influence on policy.
Currently, advocates of Palestinian rights are very far from having such networks at their disposal.
Unless they go out and do the hard work to build them, or to support meaningful campaign finance reform, whispering in the ears of politicians will have little impact.
(For what it's worth, I did my part. I recently met with Obama's legislative aide, and wrote to Obama urging a more balanced policy towards Palestine.)
If disappointing, given his historically close relations to Palestinian-Americans, Obama's about-face is not surprising.
He is merely doing what he thinks is necessary to get elected and he will continue doing it as long as it keeps him in power.
As Obama voted to reauthorize the USA Patriot Act
Palestinian-Americans are in the same position as civil libertarians who watched with dismay as Obama voted to reauthorize the USA Patriot Act, or immigrant rights advocates who were horrified as he voted in favor of a Republican bill to authorize the construction of a 700-mile fence on the border with Mexico.
Only if enough people know what Obama and his competitors stand for, and organize to compel them to pay attention to their concerns can there be any hope of altering the disastrous course of US policy in the Middle East.
It is at best a very long-term project that cannot substitute for support for the growing campaign of boycott, divestment and sanctions needed to hold Israel accountable for its escalating violence and solidifying apartheid.

He did nothing of the sort, which is not surprising to anyone who read his speech to the Council of Foreign Relations last November.
    Remember the context.
Rep. Jack Murtha had just given a savage jolt to the White House.
This be-medalled former chairman of the House Armed Services committee had publicly delivered the actual opinion of the generals:
I believe we need to turn Iraq over to the Iraqis The United States will immediately redeploy immediately redeploy.
All of Iraq must know that Iraq is free, free from a United States occupation.
And I believe this will send a signal to the Sunnis to join the political process.
And who knows, if Murtha's counsel had been followed, maybe it would have saved Iraq from the horrors now unraveling.
But Democrats fled Murtha, few with more transparent calculation than Obama who voyaged to the Council on Foreign Relations on November 22, there to ladle out to the assembled elites such balderdash as:
The President could take the politics out of Iraq once and for all if he would simply go on television and say to the American people 'Yes, we made mistakes.'
...We need to focus our attention on how to reduce the U.S. military footprint in Iraq.   Notice that I say 'reduce,' and not 'fully withdraw.'
...2006 should be the year that the various Iraqi factions must arrive at a fair political accommodation to defeat the insurgency; and , the Administration must make available to Congress critical information on reality-based benchmarks that will help us succeed in Iraq.
Obama is one of those politicians whom journalists like to decorate with words as 'adroit' or 'politically adept' because you can actually see him trimming to the wind, the way you see a conjuror of moderate skill shove the rabbit back up his sleeve.
Above all he is concerned with the task of reassuring the masters of the Democratic Party, and beyond that, the politico-corporate establishment, that he is safe.
Whatever bomb might have been in his head has long since been dis-armed.
He's never going to blow up in the face of anyone of consequence.

Over time I was increasingly shocked by the speed and ease with which many intelligent and seemingly competent members of the CFR [ Council on Foreign Relations ] appeared to eagerly justify policies and actions that supported growing corruption.
The regularity with which many CFR members would protect insiders from accountability regarding another appalling fraud surprised even me.
Many of them seemed delighted with the advantages of being an insider while being entirely indifferent to the extraordinary cost to all citizens of having our lives, health and resources drained to increase insider wealth in a manner that violated the most basic principles of fiduciary obligation and respect for the law.
In short, the CFR was operating in a win-lose economic paradigm that centralized economic and political power.
I was trying to find a way for us to shift to a win-win economic paradigm that was — by its nature — decentralizing.

If Only They'd Hissed Barack Obama — Obama's Game
There are plenty of black people like that in the Congress now.
After a decade or so of careful corporate funding, as the Black Congressional Caucus is sinking under the weight of Democratic Leadership Copuncil clones like Artur Davis of Alabama.
    Albert Wynn of Maryland.
Sanford Bishop and David Scott of Georgia.
    William Jefferson of Louisiana.
    Gregory Meeks of New York.
All assiduously selling for a mess of pottage the interests of the voters who sent them to Washington.
Obama has done exactly the same thing.
He lobbed up the first signal flare during the run-up to his 2004 senate race, when his name began to feature on Democratic Leadership Council literature as one of the hundred Democratic leaders to watch.
That indispensable publication The Black Commentator raised a stink about this.
"It would be a shame," wrote the Commentator's Bruce Dixon, "if he is in the process of becoming 'ideologically freed' from the opinions of the African American and other Democrats whose votes he needs to win."
Obama wriggled for a while, sending out clouds of mush speak such as "I believe that politics in any democracy is a game of addition, not subtraction", but the Commentator held his feet to the fire.
They posed Obama three "bright-line" questions:
    1. Do you favor the withdrawal of the United States from NAFTA? Will you in the Senate introduce or sponsor legislation toward that end?
    2. Do you favor the adoption of a single payer system of universal health care to extend the availability of quality health care to all persons in this country? Will you in the Senate introduce or sponsor legislation toward that end?
    3. Would you have voted against the October 10 congressional resolution allowing the president to use unilateral force against Iraq?
This was in 2003, when Obama clearly felt he could not afford to endanger left support by answering anything other than Yes on the questions and so he duly told the Black Commentator that he would stop hanging his hat in the halls of the DLC and would tell them to remove his name from their !00-To-Watch list.
Hence his press man, Vietor's, sensitivity to my allusion in that last to Obama's "mentor" being Senator Joe Lieberman. As a freshman senator, Vietor insisted, Obama had been assigned Lieberman as "mentor".
Read the Hartford Courant and you'll find Lieberman boasting that Obama picked him.
Either way, it's obvious that Obama could have brokered a different mentor if he'd so desired it, same way he could have declined to go and tout for Lieberman at that Democratic Party dinner in Connecticut at the end of March.
But he clearly didn't, because he wanted to send out a reassuring signal, same way as his Political Action Committee, the Hope Fund's, is raising money for 14 of his senatorial colleagues ten of whom are DLC in orientation, which is half of the DLC presence in the Senate.
    The Democrats' New Liberal Star
Like Kerry, he only quibbled over the hows.
The day before his speech, Obama told reporters, "On Iraq, on paper, there's not as much difference, I think, between the Bush administration and a Kerry administration as there would have been a year ago."
He added, "There's not that much difference between my position and George Bush's position at this stage.
The difference, in my mind, is who's in a position to execute."
Not because of his vote confirming Condi Rice as Secretary of State.
Not with his vote for the usurious bankruptcy bill.
Not even because of his anti-Iran/pro-Israel rhetoric.
Nor, even his appalling interjection of his religious beliefs into the political arena

US soldiers killing innocent civilians in Iraq is not news.
Just as it was not news that US soldiers slaughtered countless innocent civilians in Vietnam.
    Palestine
However, when some rare reportage of this non news from Iraq does seep through the cracks of the corporate media, albeit briefly, the American public seems shocked.
Private and public statements of denial and dismissal immediately start to fill the air.
We hear, "American soldiers would never do such a thing," or "Who would make such a ridiculous claim?"
It amazes me that so many people in the US today somehow seriously believe that American soldiers would never kill civilians.   Despite the fact that they are in a no-win guerrilla war in Iraq which, like any other guerrilla war, always generates more civilian casualties than combatant casualties on either side.
    PTSD
Robert J. Lifton is a prominent American psychiatrist who lobbied for the inclusion of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders after his work with US veterans from Vietnam.
His studies on the behavior of those who have committed war crimes led him to believe it does not require an unusual level of mental illness or of personal evil to carry out such crimes.
Rather, these crimes are nearly guaranteed to occur in what Lifton refers to as "atrocity-producing situations."
Several of his books, like The Nazi Doctors: Medical Killing and the Psychology of Genocide, examine how abnormal conditions work on normal minds, enabling them to commit the most horrendous crimes imaginable.
Iraq today is most certainly an "atrocity-producing situation," as it has been from the very beginning of the occupation.
The latest reported war crime, a US military raid on the al-Mustafa Shia mosque in Baghdad on March 26th, which killed at least 16 people, is only one instance of the phenomena that Lifton has spoken of.
An AP video of the scene shows male bodies tangled together in a bloody mass on the floor of the Imams' living quarters — all of them with shotgun wounds and other bullet holes.
The tape also shows shell casings of the caliber used by the US military scattered about on the floor.
An official from the al-Sadr political bloc reported that American forces had surrounded the hospital where the wounded were taken for treatment after the massacre.
The slaughter was followed by an instant and predictable disinformation blitz by the US military.
The second ranking US commander in Iraq, Lt. Gen. Peter Chiarelli, told reporters "someone went in and made the scene look different from what it was."
On March 15th, 11 Iraqis, mostly women and children, were massacred by US troops in Balad.
Witnesses told reporters that US helicopters landed near a home, which was then stormed by US troops.
Everyone visible was rounded up and taken inside the house where they were killed.
The victims' ages ranged from six months to 75 years.
The US military acknowledged the raid, but claimed to have captured a resistance fighter and insisted that only four people had been killed.
Their claim would have held good but for the discrepancies that the available evidence presents.
For one, the photographs that the AP reporter took of the scene reveal a collapsed roof, three destroyed cars and two dead cows.
The other indictment comes from the detailed report of the incident prepared by Iraq Police.
It matches witness accounts and accuses the American troops of murdering Iraqi civilians.
"The American forces gathered the family members in one room and executed 11 persons, including five children, four women and two men.
Then they bombed the house, burned three vehicles and killed the animals."
The report includes the observation of local medics that all of the bodies had bullet wounds in the head.
Ahmed Khalaf, the nephew of one of the victims said:
"The killed family was not part of the resistance, they were women and children.
"The Americans have promised us a better life, but we get only death."
AP photos of the aftermath showed the bodies of five children, two men and four others covered in blankets being driven to a nearby hospital.
    Reminiscent of Vietnam?
Another appalling example of the effect of an "atrocity-producing situation" was experienced last November 19th in Haditha.
American troops, in retaliation against a roadside bomb attack, stormed nearby homes and shot dead 15 members of two families, including a three-year-old girl.
    US military response?
All 15 civilians were killed by the blast of the roadside bomb.
In this case, reality refuted their claim when a student of journalism from Haditha showed up with a video tape of the dead, still in their nightclothes.
Killing Iraqis in their homes and while they are in bed is not news either, for during the aftermath of the November 2004 assault on Fallujah, scores of Iraqis were killed by US soldiers in this manner.
Neither is it news that the US military regularly targets ambulances and medical infrastructure.
Khaled Ahmed Rsayef, whose brother and six other relatives were killed by the troops, vividly described the blind frustration of the American soldiers and their impulsive revenge at losing one of their own.
"American troops immediately cordoned off the area and raided two nearby houses, shooting at everyone inside."
"It was a massacre in every sense of the word," said Rasayef.
While he was not present at the scene, his 15-year-old niece was and her story was corroborated by other residents of the area who witnessed the carnage.
A quick scan of some Arab media reportage for last month exposes further atrocities carried out by US forces in Iraq which find no mention in the corporate media.
March 20, the Daily Dar Al-Salam reported: "US forces destroyed houses in Hasibah and displaced the inhabitants.   Also, a source at Abu Ghurayb Secondary School said that US forces raided the school for the third time and arrested the guard."
In December 2003, I personally witnessed US soldiers raid a secondary school in the al-Amiriyah district of Baghdad and detain 16 children.
March 19, Al-Arabia reported: "In another development, seven people, including a woman, were killed in a raid carried out by joint American-Iraqi forces in Al-Dulu'iyah at dawn today.   The US Army has so far not confirmed this information."
March 9, Al Sharqiyah Television reported: "US troops opened fire at a civilian vehicle as it passed by Al-Hadba district in the western part of Mosul, northern Iraq.   The three occupants of the vehicle were martyred in the incident."
Throughout the three-year history of the US-led catastrophe that is the occupation of Iraq, we have had one instance after another of brutality meted out to innocent Iraqis, by way of direct executions or bombings from the air, or both.
During an attack on a wedding party in May 2004, US troops killed over 40 people, mostly women and children, in a desert village on the Syrian border of Iraq.
APTN footage showed fragments of musical instruments, blood stains, the headless body of a child, other dead children and clumps of women's hair in a destroyed house that was bombed by US warplanes.
Other photographs showed dead women and children, and an AP reporter identified at least 10 of the bodies as those of children.
Relatives who gathered at a cemetery outside of Ramadi, where all the bodies were buried, told reporters that each of the 28 fresh graves contained between one and three bodies.
The few survivors of the massacre later recounted how in the middle of the night long after the wedding feast had ended, US jets began raining bombs on their tents and houses.
Mrs. Shihab, a 30-year-old woman who survived the massacre, told the Guardian:
"We went out of the house and the American soldiers started to shoot us.
"They were shooting low on the ground and targeting us one by one."
She added that she ran with her two little boys before they were all shot, including herself in the leg.
"I left them because they were dead," she said of her two little boys, one of whom was decapitated by a shell.
"I fell into the mud and an American soldier came and kicked me.
"I pretended to be dead so he wouldn't kill me."
Thereafter, armored military vehicles entered the village, shooting at all the other houses and the people who were starting to assemble in the open.
Following these, two Chinook helicopters offloaded several dozen troops, some of who set explosives in one of the homes and a building next to it.
Both exploded into rubble as the helicopters lifted off.
Mr. Nawaf, one of the survivors, said:
"I saw something that nobody ever saw in this world.
There were children's bodies cut into pieces, women cut into pieces, men cut into pieces.
The Americans call these people foreign fighters.
    It is a lie.
I just want one piece of evidence of what they are saying."

    Photo: AP/APTN
Hamdi Noor al-Alusi, the manager of al-Qa'im general hospital, the nearest medical facility to the scene of the slaughter, said that of the 42 killed, 14 were children and 11 women.
"I want to know why the Americans targeted this small village," he said.
"These people are my patients.   I know each one of them.   What has caused this disaster?"
As usual, the US military ran a disinformation campaign saying the target was a "suspected safe-house" for foreign fighters and denied that any children were killed.
The ever pliant US Brig. Gen. Mark Kimmitt told reporters that the troops who reported back from the operation "told us they did not shoot women and children."
Topping his ridiculous claim was the statement of Maj. Gen. James Mattis, commander of the 1st Marine Division.
"How many people go to the middle of the desert ... to hold a wedding 80 miles (130km) from the nearest civilization?"
Perhaps someone should have informed him that these farmers and nomads often "go to the middle of the desert" because they happen to live there.
"These were more than two dozen military-age males.
Let's not be naïve," Mattis stated before being asked by a reporter to comment on the footage on Arabic television which showed a child's body being lowered into a grave.
His brilliant response was: "I have not seen the pictures but bad things happen in wars.   I don't have to apologize for the conduct of my men."
If the US were a member of the International Criminal Court, Maj. Gen. Mattis may well have been in The Hague right now being tried for aiding and abetting war crimes.
How can someone holding an official position like Mattis publicly sanction atrocities?
It is about unnatural responses such as these that Dr. Lifton has written extensively.
In a piece he wrote for the New England Journal of Medicine in July 2004, Lifton addressed the issue of US doctors being complicit in torturing Iraqis in Abu Ghraib.
This article sheds much light on the situation in Iraq.
If we substitute "doctors" with "soldiers" it is easy to understand why American soldiers are regularly committing the excesses that we hear of.

This article sheds much light on the situation in Iraq.
If we substitute "doctors" with "soldiers" it is easy to understand why American soldiers are regularly committing the excesses that we hear of.
Lifton writes, "American doctors at Abu Ghraib and elsewhere have undoubtedly been aware of their medical responsibility to document injuries and raise questions about their possible source in abuse.
But those doctors and other medical personnel were part of a command structure that permitted, encouraged, and sometimes orchestrated torture to a degree that it became the norm — with which they were expected to comply — in the immediate prison environment."
    He continues:
The doctors thus brought a medical component to what I call an "atrocity-producing situation" — one so structured, psychologically and militarily, that ordinary people can readily engage in atrocities.
Even without directly participating in the abuse, doctors may have become socialized to an environment of torture and by virtue of their medical authority helped sustain it.
"In studying various forms of medical abuse, I have found that the participation of doctors can confer an aura of legitimacy.
And can even create an illusion of therapy and healing."
    I have personally experienced this.
Standing with US soldiers at checkpoints and perimeters of operations in Iraq, I have seen them curse and kick Iraqis, heard them threatening to kill even women and children and then look at me as if they had merely said hello to them.
My status of journalist did not deter them because they saw no need for checks.
Having stood with soldiers anticipating that each moving car would turn into a bomb and each passerby into a suicide bomber, I have tasted the stress and fear these soldiers live with on a daily basis.
When one of their fellow soldiers is killed by a roadside bomb, the need for revenge may be directed at anything.
And repeated often enough, the process gets socialized
    .
It's about this attitude brought on by the normalization of the abnormal under "atrocity-producing situations" that Dr. Lifton speaks.
Unless of course we consider Mattis and others like him to be rare sociopaths who are able to participate in atrocities without suffering lasting emotional harm.
And it is this attitude that is responsible for the incessant replication of wanton slaughter and madness in Iraq today.
Back in November of 2004, I wrote about 12-year-old Fatima Harouz.
She lay dazed in a crowded room in Yarmouk Hospital in Bahgdad, feebly waving her bruised arm at flies.
    US occupation forces
    raid Sadr City
    Kill three people
    including young boy
Her shins had been shattered by bullets from US soldiers when they fired through the front door of her home in Latifiya, a small city just south of Baghdad.
Small plastic drainage bags filled with red fluid sat upon her abdomen, where she took shrapnel from another bullet.
Her mother, who was standing with us, said, "They attacked our home and there weren't even any resistance fighters in our area."
Her brother had been shot and killed, and his wife was wounded as their home was ransacked by soldiers.
"Before they left, they killed all of our chickens," she added, her eyes a mixture of fear, shock and rage.
On hearing the story, a doctor looked at me sternly and asked: "This is the freedom ... in their Disney Land are there kids just like this?"
Another wounded young woman in a nearby hospital bed, Rana Obeidy, had been walking home with her brother.
She assumed the soldiers shot her and her brother because he was carrying a bottle of soda.
    This happened in Baghdad.
She had a chest wound where a bullet had grazed her, unlike her little brother, whom the bullets had killed.
There exist many more such cases.
Amnesty International has documented scores of human rights violations committed by US troops in Iraq during the first six months of the occupation.
    US forces
    kill young boy
    To mention but a few:
US troops shot dead and injured scores of Iraqi demonstrators in several incidents.   For example, seven people were reportedly shot dead and dozens injured in Mosul on 15 April.
At least 15 people, including children, were shot dead and more than 70 injured in Fallujah on 29 April.
Two demonstrators were shot dead outside the Republican Palace in Baghdad on 18 June.
On 14 May, two US armed vehicles broke through the perimeter wall of the home of Sa'adi Suleiman Ibrahim al-'Ubaydi in Ramadi.   Soldiers beat him with rifle butts and then shot him dead as he tried to flee.
US forces shot 12-year-old Mohammad al-Kubaisi as they carried out search operations around his house in the Hay al-Jihad area in Baghdad on 26 June.
He was carrying the family bedding to the roof of his house when he was shot.
Neighbors tried to rush him to the nearby hospital by car, but US soldiers stopped them and ordered them to go back.   By the time they returned to his home, Mohammad al-Kubaisi was dead.
On 17 September, a 14-year-old boy was killed and six people were injured when US troops opened fire at a wedding party in Fallujah.
On 23 September, three farmers, 'Ali Khalaf, Sa'adi Faqri and Salem Khalil, were killed and three others injured when US troops opened a barrage of gunfire reportedly lasting for at least an hour in the village of al-Jisr near Fallujah.
A US military official stated that this happened when the troops came under attack but this was vehemently denied by relatives of the dead.
Later that day, US military officials reportedly went to the farmhouse, took photographs and apologized to the family.

After executing three men soldiers completely destroyed the home
This last incident ended in a way similar to the one I covered in Ramadi in November, 2003.   On the 23rd of that month during Ramadan, US soldiers raided a home where a family was just sitting down together to break their fast.
Three men of the family had their hands tied behind them with plastic ties and were laid on the ground face down while the women and children were made to stand inside a nearby storage closet.
Khalil Ahmed, 30 years old, the brother of two of the victims and cousin with a third, wept when he described to me how after executing the three men the soldiers completely destroyed the home, using Humvees with machine guns, small tanks, and gunfire from the many troops on foot and helicopters.
"We don't know the reason why the soldiers came here.   They didn't tell us the reason.   We don't know why they killed our family members."   Khalil seemed to demand an answer from me.   "There are no weapons in this house, there are no resistance fighters.   So why did these people have to die? Why?"
Khalil told me that the day after the executions took place, soldiers returned to apologize.   They handed him a cake saying they were sorry that they had been given wrong information by someone that told them there were resistance fighters in their house.
This is only a very small sampling.
The only way to prevent any of this from being repeated ad infinitum is to remove US soldiers from their "atrocity-producing situation" in Iraq.
For it is clearer than ever that the longer the failed, illegal occupation persists, the larger will be the numbers of Iraqis slaughtered by the occupation forces.

Bush — he burns them to death with chemical weapons.
    By Chris Floyd
U.S. President George W. Bush often complains about the "media filter" that distorts the true picture of his administration's accomplishments in Iraq.
    And he's right.
For regardless of where you stand on Bush's policies in the region, it's undeniable that the political and commercial biases of the American press have consistently misrepresented the reality of the situation.
U.S. media ignored announcement of U.S. use of chemical weapons.
    Here's an excellent example.
Earlier this month, the American media completely ignored an important announcement from an official of the Iraqi government concerning the oft-maligned U.S. operation to clear insurgents from the city of Fallujah last November.
Although the press conference of Health Ministry investigator Dr. Khalid ash-Shaykhli was attended by representatives from The Washington Post, Knight-Ridder and more than 20 other international news outlets, nary a word of his team's thorough investigation into the truth about the battle made it through the filter's dense mesh.
Once again, the American public was denied the full story of one of President Bush's remarkable triumphs.
Dr. ash-Shaykhli's findings provided confirmation of earlier reports by many other Iraqis — reports that were also ignored by the arrogant filterers, who seem more interested in hearing from terrorists or anti-occupation extremists than ordinary Iraqis and those like Dr. ash-Shaykhli, who serve in the U.S.-backed interim government vetted and approved by President Bush.
But while the media elite turn up their noses at such riffraff, the testimony of these common folk and diligent public servants gives ample evidence of Bush's innovative method of liberating innocent Iraqis from tyranny:

He burns them to death with chemical weapons.

Dr. ash-Shaykhli was sent by the pro-American Baghdad government to assess health conditions in Fallujah, a city of 300,000 that was razed to the ground by a U.S. assault on a few hundred insurgents, most of whom slipped away long before the attack.
The ruin of the city was complete: Every single house was either destroyed (from 75 to 80 percent of the total) or heavily damaged.
The city's entire infrastructure — water, electricity, food, transport, medicine — was obliterated.
Indeed, the city's hospitals were among the first targets, in order to prevent medical workers from spreading "propaganda" about civilian casualties, U.S. officials said at the time.
    Burning chemicals
Eyewitness accounts from the few survivors of the onslaught, which killed an estimated 1,200 noncombatants, have consistently reported the use of "burning chemicals" by American forces: horrible concoctions that roasted people alive with an unquenchable jellied fire, InterPress reported.
They also tell of whole quadrants of the city in which nothing was left alive, not even dogs or goats — quadrants that were sealed off by the victorious Americans for mysterious scouring operations after the battle.
Others told of widespread use of cluster bombs in civilian areas — a flagrant violation of the Geneva Conventions, but a standard practice throughout the war.
The few fragments of this information that made it through the ever-vigilant filter were instantly dismissed as anti-American propaganda, although they often came from civilians who had opposed the heavy-handed insurgent presence in the town.
Rejected as well were the innumerable horror stories of those who had seen their whole families — including women, children, the sick and the elderly — slaughtered in the "liberal rules of engagement" established by Bush's top brass.
Most of the city was declared "weapons-free": military jargon meaning that soldiers could shoot "whatever they see — it's all considered hostile," The New York Times reported, in a story buried deep inside the paper.
Yet the ash-Shaykhli team — again, appointed by the Bush-backed government — confirmed the use of "mustard gas, nerve gas and other burning chemicals" by U.S. forces during the battle.
Dr. ash-Shaykhli said that survivors — still living in refugee camps, along with some 200,000 former Fallujah residents who fled before the assault — are now showing the medical effects of attack by chemical agents and the use of depleted uranium shells.
(American officials have admitted raining more than 250,000 pounds of toxin-tipped DU ammunition on Iraqis since the war began.)
The Pentagon has acknowledged using white phosphorus in Fallujah, but only for "illumination purposes."
It denied using napalm in the attack — but, in the course of that denial, it admitted that its earlier denials of using napalm elsewhere in Iraq were in fact false.
And individual Marines filing "After Action Reports" on the Internet for military enthusiasts back home have detailed the routine use of white phosphorus shells, propane bombs and "jellied gasoline" (also known as napalm) during direct tactical assaults in Fallujah.
Dr. ash-Shaykhli's findings — coming from a pro-American government, buttressed by reams of eyewitness testimony from ordinary Iraqi civilians — appear to be substantial, credible and worthy of further investigation by the U.S. press.
Certainly, the findings are more credible than the pre-war lies and fantasies about Saddam's phantom WMD, which the "media filter" lapped up from the Bush regime and amplified across the nation, rousing support for an unnecessary, illegal and immoral war.
Yet these serious new atrocity charges have not even been mentioned, much less examined.
Degeneration of American society is taking place
Behind the filter — with its basic story template of "always moral U.S. policies occasionally marred by a few bad apples" — a relentless degeneration of American society is taking place.
Brutality and atrocity are becoming normalized, systemized and rewarded.
The noble American ideal of transcendence — overcoming the beast within, seeking to embrace an ever-broader, ever-deeper, ever-richer vision of universal communion and individual worth — is dying at the hands of the resurgent barbarity championed and cultivated by the Bush regime.
Old-fashioned citizens are being replaced by "Bush Americans": wilfully ignorant, bellicose zealots, cringingly servile toward the powerful, violently hostile to all "outsiders."
Despite Bush's artful complaints, the media filter has served his degenerate purposes very well.

    Fire almost here
    By Chris Floyd
    Published: February 17, 2006
The kindling has been piled high, stuffed with tinder and doused with gasoline.   The match has been lit.   All it will take is the slightest flick of the wrist to set off the conflagration.   We are now living in the interval, the few heartbeats left before the great flame ignites.
The heap of kindling has been a long time building, but in recent weeks, the work has intensified to a fever pitch.   With relentless urgency, the American people are being habituated to the prospect of several interrelated upheavals — new war, new terror attacks — and the predetermined result of these events: the final, open establishment of presidential tyranny, a militarized "commander state" where executive power is beyond the law, and endless war endlessly prolongs the "emergency measures" of the authoritarian regime.
Making a virtue of necessity, the Bush administration has used the exposure of its illegal wiretap scheme to ratchet up the level of terrorist scaremongering, accelerate its drive toward a military attack on Iran and publicly proclaim its long-held covert doctrine of executive dictatorship.

Iraq resistance forces target SUV belonging to British 'security' company
Of course, "commander rule" is already the de facto state of the union, as Attorney General Alberto Gonzales made clear to the Senate last week, when he refused to deny the notion that the president can contravene any law he chooses under his authority as commander-in-chief.
And we have often detailed here the tyrannical powers that President George W. Bush has already bestowed upon himself without objection from the U.S. political establishment, including the power to jail anyone without charges, hold them indefinitely and have them tortured — or simply murder them in an "extrajudicial killing."
The scope of Bush's claimed powers — arbitrary sway over the life and liberty of every person on earth — far surpasses that of the most megalomaniacal Roman emperor or totalitarian dictator.
But a militarist state must have war: to justify its draconian rule (and those $550 billion "defense" budgets), to find new fields for dominion and swag, and to seal with blood its illegitimate compact with the people, seeking to make them complicit in its crimes, which are committed in their name, for their "security."
Fortunately for the militarists, Bush has promised war in abundance.
Just this month, the Pentagon released its new strategy, heralding the newly dubbed "Long War" against terrorism, where U.S. forces will be deployed, openly and covertly, "in dozens of countries simultaneously" for decades to come.
The plan is designed to "ensure that no foreign power can dictate the terms of regional or global security" — except, of course, for the dictatorial foreign power emanating from the Potomac.
    UK occupation for oil

Iraq men show their contempt of the US and UK forces and 'special' contractors stealing from them in the occupation for oil of their country
This is the constitution of the new commander state: the eternal "emergency," fomenting endless bloodshed, strife, atrocity — and reprisals, the terrorist blowback that is the essential lubricant for the war machine.
And a new terror strike on the "homeland" is inevitable.   The ground for this attack has been carefully prepared — whether wittingly or unwittingly is irrelevant now.
For whatever the Bush faction's intentions, their actual policies have demonstrably and indisputably stoked the fires of Islamic extremism to new heights of virulence.
Meanwhile, their manifest incompetence and callous disregard for the well-being of ordinary Americans — vividly displayed in the deadly bungling of the Katrina disaster and its corruption-riddled aftermath — have left American soil virtually undefended against any genuinely serious terrorist attack, i.e. one not carried out by half-wits telegraphing their punches over tapped phones.
For years, a vast infrastructure of authoritarian rule has been constructed behind the facade of ordinary political life — such as the series of "special authorities" signed by Bush and Pentagon warlord Donald Rumsfeld giving the military absolute power over the nation "in the event of a declared or perceived emergency," The Washington Post reports.
This dovetails with such open measures as the Patriot Act and the creation of Northcom, the first military command aimed at the "homeland," which last fall conducted the massive "Granite Shadow" exercise, practicing "domestic military operations" with "unique rules of engagement regarding the use of lethal force," the Post reports.
This infrastructure is part of the context, the granite shadow looming behind many recent events, such as last month's $385 million open-ended contract awarded to Halliburton to build large-scale "detention and deportation" centers around the country, as Reuters reports.
It looms behind the "excitement" expressed by weapons-makers over Bush's plans to build new atomic bombs on a production-line basis, the Oakland Tribune reports, including "low yield" nukes for use in attacks on non-nuclear nations.
It looms over Rumsfeld's frenzied push to build a new arsenal of "first-strike" intercontinental and space-based weapons to attack enemies — or perceived enemies — with "no warning," as the Pentagon declared this month, UPI reports.
You can even see it in the Air Force's decision last week to allow top brass to press their politicized pseudo-Christianity on young cadets without restraint, as Reuters reports — more of the sinister melding of militarism and religious extremism that characterizes the Bushist philosophy.
And of course, the granite shadow overhangs the entire campaign to foment war fever against Iran, a grim replay of the "Attack Iraq" propaganda, complete with exaggerated threats, manipulated intelligence supplied by dubious exiles, lies about "pursuing diplomacy" while finalizing battle plans, as The Sunday Telegraph reports — and a complete disregard of the murderous quagmire that will ensue, including the rapid proliferation of nuclear weapons worldwide as countries scramble to protect themselves from the "first-strike" triggermen of the Bush faction.

Danish scientist Niels Harrit on nano-thermite in the WTC dust.

Niels Harrit, you and eight other researchers conclude in this article that it was nano-thermite that caused these buildings to collapse.

We have discovered distinctive red/gray chips in all the samples we have studied of the dust produced by the destruction of the World Trade Center.

One sample was collected by a Manhattan resident about ten minutes after the collapse of the second WTC Tower, two the next day, and a fourth about a week later.

The properties of these chips were analyzed using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy (XEDS), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC).

The red portion of these chips is found to be an unreacted thermitic material and highly energetic.

The carbon content of the red material indicates that an organic substance is present.

This would be expected for super-thermite formulations in order to produce high gas pressures upon ignition and thus make them explosive.

    ITALIAN SAYS 9-11 SOLVED
    It’s common knowledge, he reveals
CIA — Mossad behind terror attacks
By the Staff of American Free Press
Former Italian President Francesco Cossiga, who revealed the existence of Operation Gladio, has told Italy’s oldest and most widely read newspaper that the 9-11 terrorist attacks were run by the CIA and Mossad, and that this was common knowledge among global intelligence agencies.
In what translates awkwardly into English, Cossiga told the newspaper Corriere della Sera:
“All the [intelligence services] of America and Europe… know well that the disastrous attack has been planned and realized from the Mossad, with the aid of the Zionist world in order to put under accusation the Arabic countries and in order to induce the western powers to take part … in Iraq [and] Afghanistan.”
Cossiga was elected president of the Italian Senate in July 1983 before winning a landslide election to become president of the country in 1985, and he remained until 1992.
Cossiga’s tendency to be outspoken upset the Italian political establishment, and he was forced to resign after revealing the existence of, and his part in setting up, Operation Gladio.
This was a rogue intelligence network under NATO auspices that carried out bombings across Europe in the 1960s, 1970s and ’80s.
Gladio’s specialty was to carry out what they termed 'false flag' operations — terror attacks that were blamed on their domestic and geopolitical opposition.
In March 2001, Gladio agent Vincenzo Vinciguerra stated, in sworn testimony:
“You had to attack civilians, the people, women, children, innocent people, unknown people far removed from any political game.
The reason was quite simple: to force … the public to turn to the state to ask for greater security.”
Cossiga first expressed his doubts about 9-11 in 2001, and is quoted by 9-11 researcher Webster Tarpley saying:
“The mastermind of the attack must have been a sophisticated mind, provided with ample means not only to recruit fanatic kamikazes, but also highly specialized personnel.
I add one thing: it could not be accomplished without infiltrations in the radar and flight security personnel.”
Coming from a widely respected former head of state, Cossiga’s assertion that the 9-11 attacks were an inside job and that this is common knowledge among global intelligence agencies is illuminating.
It is one more eye-opening confirmation that has not been mentioned by America’s propaganda machine in print or on TV.
Nevertheless, because of his experience and status in the world, Cossiga cannot be discounted as a crackpot.

The Energy Department will announce today a contract to develop the nation's first new hydrogen bomb in two decades, involving a collaboration between three national weapons laboratories, The Times has learned.
The new bomb will include design features from all three labs, though Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in the Bay Area appears to have taken the lead position in the project. The Los Alamos and Sandia labs in New Mexico will also be part of the project.

Norway says Russia has increased military flights in the Arctic
The UK's Royal Air Force has launched fighter jets to intercept eight Russian military planes flying in airspace patrolled by Nato, UK officials say.
Four RAF F3 Tornado aircraft were scrambled in response to the Russian action, the UK's defence ministry said.
The Russian planes - said to be long-range bombers - had earlier been followed by Norwegian F16 jets.
Russia recently revived a Cold War-era practice of flying bombers on long-range patrols.
A Norwegian officer, Lt Col John Inge Oegland, told the BBC the Russian Tupolev Tu-95 Bear bombers flew in international airspace from the Barents Sea to the Atlantic, before turning back.
Two Norwegian F-16s shadowed them on Thursday morning and another two went up later, he said.
There have been several similar incidents in recent months, Lt-Col Oegland added.
"Norway is following the increased Russian activity in the far north with interest," he told the BBC News website.
He said the Russian flights were not causing alarm in Norway.   "Our systems are adequate," he said, when asked whether Norway was bolstering its security in the area.
The reader can appreciate why Wall Street would welcome someone as accommodating as Gorelick at Fannie Mae.
This was a period when the profits rolled in from engineering the most spectacular growth in mortgage debt in U.S. history.
As one real estate broker said, “They have turned our homes into ATM machines.”
Fannie Mae has been a leading player in centralizing control of the mortgage markets into Washington D.C. and Wall Street.
And that means as people were rounded up and shipped to prison as part of Operation Safe Home, Fannie was right behind to finance the gentrification of neighborhoods.
And that is before we ask questions about the extent to which the estimated annual financial flows of $500 billion–$1 trillion money laundering through the U.S. financial system or money missing from the US government are reinvested into Fannie Mae securities.

James Forrestal’s oil portrait always hung prominently in one of the private Dillon Read dining rooms for the eleven years that I worked at the firm. Forrestal, a highly regarded Dillon partner and President of the firm, had gone to Washington, D.C. in 1940 to lead the Navy during WWII and then played a critical role in creating the National Security Act of 1947.

He then became Secretary of War (later termed Secretary of Defense) in September 1947 and served until March 28, 1949.

Given the central banking-warfare investment model that rules our planet, it was appropriate that Dillon
partners at various times lead both the Treasury Department and the Defense Department.

Shortly after resigning from government, Forrestal died falling out of a window of the Bethesda Naval Hospital outside of Washington, D.C. on May 22, 1949.

There is some controversy around the official explanation of his death — ruled a suicide.

Some insist he had a nervous breakdown. Some say that he was opposed to the creation of the state of Israel.

Others say that he argued for transparency and accountability in government, and against the provisions instituted at this time to create a secrete “black budget.”

He lost and was pretty upset about it — and the loss was a violent one.

Since the professional killers who operate inside the Washington beltway have numerous techniques to get perfectly sane people to kill themselves, I am not sure it makes a big difference.

Approximately a month later, the CIA Act of 1949 was passed.

The Act created the CIA and endowed it with the statutory authority that became one of the chief components of financing the “black” budget — the power to claw monies from other agencies for the benefit of secretly funding the intelligence communities and their corporate contractors.

This was to turn out to be a devastating development for the forces of transparency, without which there can be no rule of law, free markets or democracy.

President Franklin Delano Roosevelt appointed Forrestal as an administrative assistant on June 22, 1940, then nominated him as Undersecretary of the Navy six weeks later. In the latter post, Forrestal would prove to be very effective at mobilizing industrial production for the war effort.
He became Secretary of the Navy on May 19, 1944, following the death of his immediate supervisor Frank Knox from a heart attack. Forrestal then led the Navy through the closing year of the war and the demobilization that followed.   What might have been his greatest legacy as Navy Secretary was an attempt that came to nought.   He, along with Secretary of War Henry Stimson and Under Secretary of State Joseph Grew, in the early months of 1945, strongly advocated a softer policy toward Japan that would permit a negotiated face-saving surrender.   His primary concern was "the menace of Russian Communism and its attraction for decimated, destabilized societies in Europe and Asia", and, therefore, keeping the Soviet Union out of the war with Japan.   Had his advice been followed, Japan might well have surrendered before August 1945, precluding the use of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.   So strongly did he feel about this matter that he cultivated negotiation attempts that bordered closely on insubordination toward the President.
Forrestal opposed the unification of the services, but even so helped develop the National Security Act of 1947 that created the National Military Establishment (the Department of Defense was not created as such until August 1949), and with the former Secretary of War Robert P. Patterson retiring to private life, Forrestal was the next choice.
His 18 months at Defense came at an exceptionally difficult time for the U.S. military establishment:   Communist governments came to power in Czechoslovakia and China; West Berlin was blockaded, necessitating the Berlin Airlift to keep it going; the war between the Arab states and Israel after the establishment of Israel in Palestine; and negotiations were going on for the formation of NATO.   His reign was also hampered by intense interservice rivalries.
In addition, President Harry Truman constrained military budgets billions of dollars below what the services were requesting, putting Forrestal in the middle of the tug-of-war.   Forrestal was also becoming more and more worried about the Soviet threat.   Internationally, the takeover by the Communists of Eastern Europe, their threats to the governments of Greece, Italy, and France, their impending takeover of China, and the invasion of South Korea by North Korea would demonstrate the legitimacy of his concerns on the international front as well.

Given the central banking-warfare investment model that rules our planet, it was appropriate that Dillon partners at various times lead both the Treasury Department and the Defense Department.

What Briody does not mention is allegations regarding Brown & Root's involvement in narcotics trafficking. Former LAPD narcotics investigator Mike Ruppert once described his break up with fiance Teddy — an agent dealing narcotics and weapons for the CIA while working with Brown & Root, as follows:
“Arriving in New Orleans in early July, 1977 I found her living in an apartment across the river in Gretna. Equipped with scrambler phones, night vision devices and working from sealed communiqués delivered by naval and air force personnel from nearby Belle Chasse Naval Air Station, Teddy was involved in something truly ugly.
She was arranging for large quantities of weapons to be loaded onto ships leaving for Iran.
At the same time she was working with Mafia associates of New Orleans Mafia boss Carlos Marcello to coordinate the movement of service boats that were bringing large quantities of heroin into the city.
The boats arrived at Marcello controlled docks, unmolested by even the New Orleans police she introduced me to, along with divers, military men, former Green Berets and CIA personnel.
“The service boats were retrieving the heroin from oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico, oil rigs in international waters, oil rigs built and serviced by Brown and Root.
The guns that Teddy monitored, apparently Vietnam era surplus AK 47s and M16s, were being loaded onto ships also owned or leased by Brown and Root.
And more than once during the eight days I spent in New Orleans I met and ate at restaurants with Brown and Root employees who were boarding those ships and leaving for Iran within days.
Once, while leaving a bar and apparently having asked the wrong question, I was shot at in an attempt to scare me off.”

The Clinton Administration took the groundwork laid by Nixon, Reagan and Bush and embraced and blossomed the expansion and promotion of federal support for police, enforcement and the War on Drugs with a passion that was hard to understand unless and until you realized that the American financial system was deeply dependent on attracting an estimated $500 billion-$1 trillion of annual money laundering.
Globalizing corporations and deepening deficits and housing bubbles required attracting vast amounts of capital.
Attracting capital also required making the world safe for the reinvestment of the profits of organized crime and the war machine.
Without growing organized crime and military activities through government budgets and contracts, the economy would stop centralizing.
The Clinton Administration was to govern a doubling of the federal prison population.

    9/11
By all accounts, the unprecedented events of September 11th, 2001 changed the way our country functions, and in turn, the world.
It is therefore critical that conscientious Americans, as well as people around the globe, understand these events in detail.
Unfortunately the official reports, including The 9/11 Commission Report and the NIST WTC Report, written by those working under the direction of the Bush Administration, have been proven to be elaborate cover-ups.
    Film: 9/11 Revisited
September 11th Revisited is perhaps the most riveting film ever made about the destruction of the World Trade Center.
This is a powerful documentary which features eyewitness accounts and archived news footage that was shot on September 11, 2001 but never replayed on television.
Featuring interviews with eyewitnesses & firefighters, along with expert analysis by Professor Steven E. Jones, Professor David Ray Griffin, MIT Engineer Jeffrey King, and Professor James H. Fetzer.
This film provides stunning evidence that explosives were used in the complete demolition of the WTC Twin Towers and WTC Building 7.

Justice O'Connor's decision in Bush v. Gore led to the current Bush administration's execution of war crimes and atrocities in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other places in the Middle East that are as egregious as those committed by the Third Reich and other evil governments in human history.
US destroyed Fallujah as it tries to destroy the rest of Iraq
    The lesson is clear.
Those people who may be honorable and distinguished in their chosen profession should always make decisions based upon good rather than evil no matter where their nominal allegiances may rest.
Justice O'Connor was quoted to have said something to the affect that she abhorred the thought of Bush losing the 2000 election to Gore.
She was known to have wanted to retire after the 2000 election for same reason she is now retiring.
She wanted to spend more time with her sick husband.
Unfortunately, she tarnished her distinguished career with the deciding vote in Bush v. Gore by going along with the partisan majority of the Court to interfere with a democratic election that she and the majority feared would be lost in an honest recount.
She dishonored herself and the Supreme Court by succumbing to party allegiances and not The Constitution to which she swore to uphold.
And the constitutional argument she and the majority used to justify their decision was the Equal Protection Clause.
The Equal Protection Clause was the ultimate basis for the decision, but the majority essentially admitted (what was obvious in any event) that it was not basing its conclusion on any general view of what equal protection requires.
The decision in Bush v Gore was not dictated by the law in any sense—either the law found through research, or the law as reflected in the kind of intuitive sense that comes from immersion in the legal culture.
The Equal Protection clause is generally used in matters concerning civil rights.
The majority ignored their basic conservative views supporting federalism and states' rights in order to justify their decision.
History will haunt these justices down for their utter lack of justice and the hypocrisy associated with this decision.

There are those who contend that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is all about Israel's occupation of the West Bank and Gaza.   This is absolute nonsense.
In truth, the history of the conflict is not over occupation, and never has been:  it is over the fundamental right of Israel to exist.
The greatest threat to Israel's right to exist, with the prospect of devastating violence, now comes from Iran.
For too long, leaders of both political parties in the United States have not done nearly enough to confront the Russians and the Chinese, who have supplied Iran as it has plowed ahead with its nuclear and missile technology....
In the words of Isaiah, we will make ourselves to Israel 'as hiding places from the winds and shelters from the tempests; as rivers of water in dry places; as shadows of a great rock in a weary land.'
    Pelosi
