Tehran,
Oct 7 - The Government and the nation of the Islamic Iran have decided
not to miss even a single moment in achieving all kinds of scientific
advances and modern technologies, President Muhammad Khatami asserted
Tuesday. 'The Islamic Republic of Iran emphasizes two issues;
for one thing it calls for a region void of nuclear and mass
destruction weapons and for the other it welcomes solidarity and
bonding among all regional governments and nations seeking development
and democracy,' President Khatami said before thousands of audience
in a visit to the war-ravaged south Iranian city, Dezful.
As the
Iranian President and the representative of an honorable nation, who
suffered an eight-year imposed war and tasted the bitter chemicals and
weapons of mass destruction, I announce to the world that Iran is the
messenger of peace, not war." Describing the Iranian nation as
world's most-affected nation from weapons of mass destruction and a
victim of terrorism, President Khatami noted: "The Islamic Republic of
Iran is strongly opposed to any form of terrorism." Expressing
regret over world silence in the face of recent Israeli invasion of
Syrian territories, President Khatami said: 'Alas, those who make
claims of democracy, freedom and human rights, offer their backings to
the root of terrorism, instead of condemning it'.
